About the Wood Burning Artist
>> a.k.a. pyrography artist <<
It took me 5 years...
...before I decided to take wood burning seriously (well, kind of seriously). That's when I started a little Etsy shop selling wood burned custom name spoons. But I wasn't satisfied. Burning text is nice but art is my passion.
Over and over, my friends and family encouraged me to sell bigger art pieces. "Your art is legit, Jannie!" But I didn't really believe I could. Then... I took a dare.
Another 2 years later - my sister said, "I dare you. I just dare to draw something real. And do it on something waaaay bigger than a wood spoon."
A good dare. I couldn't resist. Challenge Accepted! I burned a 3 foot single stem peony, which still proudly hangs in my living room. You can see it on my Instagram feed. Now I'm hooked, and I get to wood burn "real" art on a regular basis. "How's the business Jannie?"Let me just say - holy cow, what a ride!!!
There have been late nights and a learning curve that rivals Mount Everest. But this has been the most satisfying career move I've ever made. I still feel genuinely delighted and humbled every time I'm commissioned to capture a magical moment, memorialize a loved one, or draw a new baby's perfect little face. And yes, I still do a happy dance with every single sale. Love a good shock factor?
Oh. Me too.
